Ancient Grasslands

Over the vast moorlands that surround Keighley, you eventually come down into Hardcastle Crags, a beautiful ancient woodland, now managed by the National Trust. My husband, nature boy, Archie is the ranger there and he's been teaching me about ancient grassland. Ancient grassland is as endangered as a snow leopard and holds as much carbon than a rainforest. However here in West Yorkshire there are still pockets of it. A small number of Exmoor Ponies graze it at Hardcastle Crags, keeping the flora, fauna and rare funga in check.
