A Morning In Keighley

Early one morning, during the Covid pandemic, I caught a lift to the centre of town and climbed up to the top of a multi-story car park. My plan was to find a space I could observe from, but with fresh air and lots of space.

A Morning in Keighley was one of my earlier pieces, where I consciously wanted to show people of Keighley it was worth making art about. It was first shown in a dis-used department store with the organisation, Keighley Creative. People used to cut through this store to get from the bus station to the train, and so I thought it might reach out to people going about their everyday business, who might not think to go visit a gallery.

It then went on to be shown at the Mercer Gallery, Harrogate; South Square Centre, Thornton; and The Town Hall, Hebden Bridge.

This piece has been a great conversation starter, and it's been interesting to see how people from different places have responded to it and talked about how they feel about where they live themselves.
