Vale Mill Lane

A hazy warm afternoon. I often start my paintings with an instinctive phase, where I experiment making marks with found objects. This helps me loosen up and let go of any negative thoughts. It's important I enjoy the process. On this occasion I then took my work with me on a walk. Finding a corner looking up the valley, I then started to work on top with charcoal. I wanted this piece to express how I was feeling on that sunny day - free and at ease. So I then continued to work on it from memory back in my studio
