Not Just Hockney

Not just Hockney
The life and work of Bradford artists past and present!
30/01/18
Not Just Hockney is a fantastic website providing you with an illustrated catalogue of artist who were born, work or have made their home in what is now known as the Bradford Metropolitan District. This part of West Yorkshire is rich in culture, history, an array of architecture and beautiful landscapes. There is a wealth of artists exploring many different skills and techniques. Colin Neville, is the creator of Not Just Hockney, a retired lecturer from the town of Silsden. He is passionate about supporting local artists, both emerging and well established and understands how difficult it is for artists to promote themselves. For this reason he created his website, Notjusthockney, which has grown rapidly and strengthened the community of artists from this area.

Colin now curates, along with Bradford UNESCO City of Film, the Not Just Hockney, Big Screen presentation. A large projection in Centenary Square, Bradford, running every other month, featuring five different artists work everyday. This means people's artwork is seen by 17,000 people a day!

Colin approached me after seeing my work at the Ilkley Art Trail and asked if I would like to be included on his website. I was so thrilled to find out about Not Just Hockney, as it is such a useful site to link with like minded artists and through the related facebook page, find out what's going on in the area. I am particularly excited because I will be moving back to Bradford Metropolitan District soon, and I am already finding out all sorts of things that are going on in the community. A really encouraging and uplifting move!

"Bradford is a great place for photographers and painters to work, as the people here have bags of character and resilience. There’s a brilliant photograph to be taken, or sketch to be made, on every street corner"
